In the alphabet, R comes before S. In the world of 3-door Civics, the other way round. The Honda civicType-R arrives later, but for now there is a taster in the shape of the Type-S, with the same new body-shape model clothing a slightly wider (by 20mm) rear track.
The engines are existing Civic fare, which means a 1.8-litres with 138 bhp , variable timing and lift for its single camshaft, or a hefty 2.2-litre turbo diesel with the same power but nearly twice the torque (251lb ft to the petrol’s 128).
Deeper sills and valances, 17 inch wheels and part-Alcantara trim with ----yes! – silver stitching set the tone, and there’s an optional GT pack containing lots of stuff you would not miss such as cruise control and automatic wipers and lights.
There are some suspension tweaks, too – the springs and anti-roll bars are stiffer, as are the dampers’ rebound settings, and the ride height is fractionally lower – and the steering is weightier as it moves off centre, the steering column is mounted more rigidly, the stability system allows more freedom, and the wider rear track is designed to make the Civic less twitchy.
Does it all work? I drove honda civic 1.8 i-VTEC Type-S and found a much improved car over the first new-shape honda Civics, with less thump from it rear suspension over ridges and a keener throttle response. The 1.8 liter is brisk rather than quick though, so we need to use all 6 gears freely & while the steering is credibly meaty and it’s short of true feel unless you are cornering hard.
Which is something the Honda civic Type-S does with glee-metered mobility from the tail to make every roundabout a dynamic treat. Now all the space age Honda Civic needs is some warp drive coming soon.
The Honda Civic could be a line of subcompact car and after compact cars created and made by Honda. The Civic, beside the Accord and Prelude, comprised Honda\'s vehicles sold-out in America till the Nineteen Nineties, once the model lineup was expanded . Having versed many people changes, the Civic has become larger and additional upmarket , and it presently slots between the work and Accord.

Honda Civic Review
The 2013 Honda Civic ranks 8 out of 40 Affordable Small Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of 33 published reviews and test drives of the Honda Civic, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.
The 2013 Honda Civic is ranked:
- #8in Affordable Small Cars
- #5in Affordable Compact Cars
According to reviewers, the 2013 Honda Civic’s improved interior materials and additional standard features make it class-competitive.
The Honda Civic comes in base, Si, HF and Hybrid models. The Honda Civic Hybrid is reviewed separately. Each model has a different powertrain setup, but they all have a four-cylinder gasoline engine. The base Civic’s engine makes 140 horsepower, and while reviewers think it provides the Civic with good freeway acceleration, they think some competitors feel more powerful. Honda says the base Civic averages 28/39 mpg city/highway. The base Civic has five-speed manual and automatic transmissions. Reviewers don’t complain about either one, but some wish that they had six gears like many rivals. For the 2013 model year, Honda tightened the Civic’s suspension, and reviewers say that the ride and steering are nicely balanced. The Honda Civic doesn't lead the class with stellar performance, but it does trump a lot of the competition with a combination that few small cars can match: above-average safety and reliability scores.
This year, the Honda Civic has more standard features, which brings it in line with offerings from its competitors. The base sedan comes with air conditioning, a USB port, Bluetooth and a rearview camera. A navigation system and a stereo upgrade are optional. Overall, test drivers think the climate and audio controls are easy to use, though one says the navigation system is a little complicated. Auto writers are pleased with the Civic’s cabin space and comfortable seats. They report that the front seats offer good space for adults, though tall adults will need more headroom. They say the rear seats will fit most adults. The Civic trails some of its classmates in terms of cargo space, though.
- "Civic is not tops in the compact class at everything, but its strength lies in that it really has no glaring faults. ... Although Civic is now up against a much tougher group of rival cars -- some of which might best it from a ‘features per dollar’ standpoint -- it's still a compact-car Best Buy." -- Consumer Guide
- "But with new compacts threatening its traditional dominance, the 2013 Civic arrives with a new look to complement its still-competitive package." -- Edmunds
- "Result: Civic's now a car that's fun to drive, not one that's just OK. It feels as if it's a credible contender for best compact." -- USA Today

Fuel Efficiency
Our engineers spent many hours testing and experimenting with the new Civic's high mounted rear wing to minimise drag and improve fuel efficiency. Fuel economy was further improved by integrating Honda's innovative Idle Stop and Eco Assist systems.
For incredible class-leading fuel economy, look no further than the new 1.6 i-DTEC diesel model. With outstanding combined consumption of 78.5mpg*, you could drive from London to Paris and back – 863 miles – on a single tank of fuel.
